Draining the tray clears the code, but the code will come back unless the leak that filled it is found. That is the part of the job that actually matters, and it is where we start.
Most often a blocked filter or a restricted drain hose rather than a failed pump. A surprisingly common cause on newer installations is a garbage disposal knockout plug that was never removed, which blocks the dishwasher drain from day one. We check those before quoting a pump.
